The happiest thing I've seen today

This whole week we have (apparently) been rationing diapers and Emmy was doing his best to make one last as many days as he could. He was averaging one or less diapers a day, which was really nerve wracking to me as the mommy...but today he woke up and had a diaper that, even though it wasn't filled with pee, there was pee in it! How glad I was to change that diaper! It means that he is probably on the mend and will (hopefully) start drinking more.

You know that old saying, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink? Well, that's not really true. If you happened to outweigh the horse 5:1, and you hold him down and squirt syringes filled with Gatorade in his mouth...he does swallow, in between his tears, and you can keep him hydrated. The way I saw it, me holding him down and getting him to drink a quarter cup of liquid every couple of hours was much less traumatic (and less expensive) than taking him to the ER and having them poke him repeatedly for three hours trying to get an IV in so they could hydrate him. And my way seemed to work, that's where this diaper came from!

You may not be able to make the horse drink, but you can force a dehydrated child to take liquid and swallow. Been there. Done that. Lost the t-shirt. ;)

It's totally cheaper and less stressful than having a child in the hospital.
