Easter recap

Easter was so much fun, life has just been moving quickly and I am behind on posts again.

Easter week was rainy and grey, but Easter weekend cleared up and turned into a beautiful weekend.

We took the kids to two local egg hunts. One was at IGA (our grocery store) and one was put on by a ladies group (the Eagles) and was held at a park here in town. The store hunt consisted of a long waiting long with a scary looking Easter bunny stalking all the kids, followed by releasing a million children into the store to find plastic eggs and candy hidden all through the shelves and produce. Despite waiting in line for half an hour, the search was over in less than 4 minutes. The majority of the shelves were in dire need of reorganizing after kids had grappled through them finding eggs.
The older two boys went on one side of the store with the older kids while Emmett was on the other side with the younger kids. It was mayhem. Ten minutes after it started, we had finished the egg hunt, taken all the kids' candy out of the plastic eggs and returned the empty eggs to the shopping cart collectors, and were heading home with about 5 pounds of salt water taffy in bright spring colors. Not the most memory making of egg hunts.

BUT, two hours later we were outside in the bright sunshine waiting for egg hunt number two to start. This time the kids got to wait by skipping rocks in a pond  - infinitely better way to spend your waiting time!
The hunt itself was not much of a hunt - more of a let's-spread-3000-eggs-on-the-ground-and-let-the kids-pick-them-up sort of hunt.

Emme actually got tired of picking up eggs shortly after this picture was taken. There were still lots of eggs on the ground in his age group, but when I asked if he was sure that he didn't want to pick up any more, even though they had chocolate candies in them, he simply replied, "Aww, no tanks." And so we stopped picking up eggs.

All in all, the three boys who got to do this egg hunt (Teagan was too old to do hunts this year) came home with lots of candy. And not just taffies! The second hunt had Snickers and Butterfingers and all sorts of yummy candy hidden in the eggs!

On Easter morning the kids woke up to the normal bunny trail that our Easter bunny leaves. The Easter Bunny leaves each person one candy and they have to follow that trail to find where that waskally wabbit hid it.
Most of the kids think it is wonderfully fun...
Scott thinks it is annoying to have to stoop over and pick up candy off of the floor. He says it is counterproductive to us teaching our kids not to eat food they find on the ground. My response? Easter is a special day where the 10 second rule morphs into the 10 hour rule for all the candy on the floor!

Emme apparently follows his daddy's train of thought somewhat. He didn't want to pick up his own line of candy, but was more than willing to walk beside Owen and let HIM pick them up and them into Emme's bag.
And he loved finding his basket surrounded by fish in the coat closet
Teagan found hers beside the piano.
Garrett's was under the kitchen sink and the joint basket for Duncan, Daddy, and Mommy was under the stove.
Owen found his behind the couch.
After church, we went and had Easter dinner with two families in the ward. They supplied the ham and eggs and we brought mashed potatoes, two kinds of gravy, a fruit tray, and a dessert. It was a lot of fun. One of the Grandparents who also came brought the cutest deviled eggs. Little Easter chickies! The eyes were chopped olive pieces and the beak was a little sliver of a carrot. Then she added some shredded paper and a chocolate egg to each nest to complete the look.
