Good Morning?

We've been having some crazy weather this week - cold, rain, wind. And with lots of rain comes the mass migration of earthworms - they are like lemmings jumping off the cliff. They move from the water soaked lawn to the stream filled gutters. It makes no sense. And in the midst of all the earthwormy confusion emerges two life savers - Superhero Owen and his trusty sidekick Garrett!

Whenever the worms abandon the safety of their dirty homes and start creepy crawling across the sidewalks, my two rescuers go to work saving them before they crawl over the edge into the water below or dry up shriveled and crispy when the sun returns. They collect all the worms they see and put them in a tupperware filled with nice dry dirt. Then, once the rain stops, they return the dish of dirt to one of my garden beds, and voila', My garden has a new helping of worms to keep it healthy. The worms win and I win - I love it!So during the worm round up this week, we collected almost 600 worms!! You'd be amazed at how many of them fit into a little container! We kept them warm and safe and dry for a day, then when the rain ended, we released them into the front flower bed with well wishes.

Then this morning we wake up to a fresh layer of snow on the ground...we're hoping they were fast burrowers and got deep enough to have not frozen!

We also found it a bit irritating that while the whole neighborhood was covered in a soft blanket of white snow, our water sprinklers came on in the wee hours of the morning and melted all our snow leaving fun patches of ice all over our yard and sidewalks. It all ended up okay though, the sun came out and we got up to 50 degrees, so the ice melted and so did most of everyone else's snow.
