And the final decision is....

Anyone who has ever been with me at a drive-thru line or in a restaraunt knows that I cannot make up my mind about anything...so I don't know who thought it was a good idea to give me the final decision making powers over naming the kids? If I can't decide between a ceasar salad or a baked potato how on earth am I going to be able to make life-long lasting decision?!

Our poor little man has been called "Sparky", "Baby No-Name", "Baby Boy Fife", "Sparticus"and about a dozen assorted names that we 'tried on for size.' He even came home from the hospital without a sure name!

 We took a poll from everyone we saw or talked to in the hopes of deciding on what to call him. It was narrowed down to being between "Duncan", "Reid", and "Samuel." All of which sound nice, fit his face, and both Scott and I love.

 Duncan was the other name option we had for Emmett (which we chose after doing a family poll for him as well!) I also liked it because it followed our unintentional naming pattern of our kids: TeagAN, GarrETT, OwEN, EmmETT - see it? So the next baby (if we were to follow the pattern) would need to end with the -en/an sound.

Reid we just liked a lot. Every Reid that we have known has been a good guy and the name itself is a nice, not-so-usual name, so it would fit in with all our other kids' names.

And Samuel...Baby Sam...Sammy... the shortened versions were fun to play with, but Sam is such a common name. He would be Sam F. in every class he was in because there would invariably be another Sam there as well. We actually got this name from the day nurse that was in the hospital with me. As Scott and I were talking on the ohone tossing names around, she came in to take his vitals and overheard our conversation. She jokingly and quietly said to herself..."Nope, you've got it wrong. He's a Sam, he said his name is Samuel." I told Scott what she said and he liked the name. So it made it on our list of possibilities thanks to Nurse Susan!

You know how when you have a new baby you look for one identifying feature that sets your little person apart  from any other baby they might try to switch you with? With Teagan it was a little crinkle in her ear. Emmett had a hairy, hairy back and arms. And with this baby, he had two that really stood out. The first was that he has one ear that is more pointed than the other - like it had been smooshed up against something during development and it couldn't fully expand. Nothing too drastic, but it stands out a little. The second are his pinky toes.

He keeps his feet flexed a lot and his little pinky toes point out at a funny angle and look like they are coing out of the soles of his feet - it's sorta creepy almost! He can relax them and then they look like they are where they belong, but when his toes are flexed it looks so uncomfortable.

He has everyone wrapped around those wierd little pinky toes of his, but I think his biggest fan is Emmett. His every waking thought involves 'his baby.' He was the first visitor to hold Duncan.

He cried and cried when we made him share the baby with Garrett and Owen when they came to see us in the hospital...he wanted his baby back! Teagan had the video camera nad was able to capture it all on tape - it is really cute! Garrett is in love with Duncan, Teagan is blissfully happy with him, Owen is cautiously in love with him; but Emmy... infatuated, enthralled, all consumed....he takes the cake!

He loves looking at Duncan all over. He rubs his face along Duncan's head because it is so soft and he sings songs to Duncan and jibberjabbers at him all the time.

Emmy is by his side wherever Duncan is in the room.

He feels like he has to sit next to whoever is taking their turn holding him. Sits next to him in the car. They are inseperable. 

So here is is...our newest member of the family. Duncan Scott... he is a great little guy already. Easy going, very relaxed (other than his toes!), smells delicious, feels like the smoothest satin ever, and cuddles like a little puppy.
