Gratitude 13: Priesthood Blessings

With Scott's parents having such poor health and not being able to travel much, this weekend we spent down at their house so we could do Duncan's Name Blessing with Grandpa and Uncle Stuart there with us. This was the first time that we haven't had a lot of family with us for a special occasion like this and it was sort of a sad thing for me. My mom has been able to make it out to the other four blessings, but wasn't able to come to Duncan's . (You were there with us in  thought though, Mom.) Even though it wasn't celebrated as big as the other four kids' blessings days were, it was still a beautiful day for Duncan and he now officially has his name on the records of the church.
(Like Scottie's tie, Mom? It's one of his favorite and is one you gave him!)
Duncan was such a good boy during the blessing and smiled at the men around him through the whole thing. Scott gave the blessing and Uncle Stuart, Grandpa, and Grandpa's bishop (Bishop LeFevre) were the others in the circle around him.
His blessing was very beautiful. It spoke of him being able to learn much in this life and of his faith and knowledge of the gospel. It spoke of how he would follow the example of Christ and then others would follow his good example and know where his example came from. That he would be a representative of Christ in all he does.
It spoke of him having special skills that would display his love of Christ. And it spoke of him one day finding a special young woman and marrying her in the temple for time and eternity.
It closed blessing him that he would have a sure knowledge of his Heavenly Father and the love He has for him and reminding him that that knowledge would be a constant guide directing him through all his life.

(Don't you love all those expressions?! It will be fun to look back in 10 years and see how many of these expressions he still uses. )
Afterwards, Scott's mom made a big dinner for us all and we played games and ate delicious food. It was a fun afternoon. I took lots of pictures of him and he played along for a little while before it grew old and he fell asleep mid-shoot.
Emmy was at his side for most of it; like usual! But that was welcomed after the morning he had making adventures on his own. First Emmett had gotten into Grandpa's medicine cabinet and eaten some of his pills. A quick phone call to poison control let us know that it would be okay - he had gotten a hold of a stomach acid reducer, so it wouldn't hurt him. Then he had found the hair trimmer and wanted to give himself a hair buzz - luckily the batteries were mostly dead, so the clippers didn't work! So having him constantly in my sight was a good thing!
(we tried to keep Emmy's mouth occupied the rest of the morning to keep him from returning to his pill buffet)

Now we are back home and getting ready for a big week. The kids have two award ceremonies - one tomorrow night for 4-H and one on Friday for Reflections. We will also be packing for a family trip to California this weekend and a trip for Scott and I and Duncan up to Washington to go house hunting. Big stuff coming up for us...just more to be grateful for!

The baby is beautiful, Kris. He has such a peaceful look about him. You can tell that he is beloved. I'm glad that the blessing went smoothly. I was so sad not to be there. Maybe for the next one?!
