Teagan's birthday party

Okay, so she turned nine almost a week ago, but she shares her birthday with another little girl in her class who also turned nine last Saturday, and to make it so none of their friends had to choose which party to go to or anything inconvienant like that, we had her party this weekend. So she got to go to Maddy's party last Friday with all of her friends, and then they all came over to our house tonight for another party! That 8/9/10 year old class is just a partying sort of crowd!
We had a movie and pizza party and all the girls had a ball. Scott picked up a school projector from a BYU surplus sale and fixed it so we used it to project a movie onto the front wall of our living room and all the girls spread out to watch Barbie Mariposa after we had pizza, chips, cake and ice cream. They all thought it was pretty cool! Our original plan was to project onto the side of the neighbor's house, but it is still a little too cool at nights to stay out through a whole movie, so we moved the party inside.
Everyone had a ball, but somewhere around 8:30-ish, when the estrogen level in the house had reached the ceiling, poor Garrett started to buckle under the pressure. He had sat at the table with the purple table cloth, eaten off of butterfly and dragonfly plates and napkins, watched Teagan unwrap Littlest Pet Shop animals, Hannah Montana doll, jump rope, lip gloss and an aray of other equally girly gifts. He had played with 10 rambunctious girls for almost 3 hours, Sat through watching Barbie Mariposa, and then something snapped. He went to his room (where the last bit of testosterone was hiding) and got out some "manly" toys. He started snapping at the girls when they ran up and tried to "tag" him in their game and sat in the hallway curled in a ball and put Micromachine paper airplanes together. Some of the girls came up and asked him to join them in their games, but he was done ~ he had emotionally collapsed under the female pressure cooker the house had become and he collapsed in onto himself and went to find a happy place for himself! The poor guy!
A little after 9 the girls' parents started coming to get them and he started to unwind a bit. I had told him that after they left he could put a boy movie on and we could watch it on the projector as well, so we sat down and watched Underdog - a much more manly movie than Barbie! By the time his daddy got home at 11:30, Garrett was feeling better, but having a big guy in the house who sweats testosterone made everything better. Now he wasn't the only man fighting to maintain an equal balance in the house, here was his backup!

And as I write this, Owen has long since fallen asleep (he was a traitor to his sex and played very well with the girls all night long but succombed to the exhaustion that comes from being a three-year old with a group of pre-babysitting aged girls who doted on his every need) and I have put him in his bed, Teagan is a quite content little girl who had a great party and then had fun having a friend do a late-over (our version of spend the night, but the friends go home at bedtime), and Garrett is cuddled next to his daddy and they are watching Underdog again because Dad didn't get to watch it earlier.
The levels of hormones in our house are leveling off and the world is righting itself once again.
