And the winner is...
Tonight was the much anticipated Pinewood Derby night for the Cub Scouts. With the help of Grandpa and a couple of Dads in our neighborhood, his car was carved, primed, weighed, and ready to go. He designed everything about the car and was really pleased with how it turned out.
He won every heat his car was in and made it to the top three uncontested!
He and two buddies from his Bear pack won all three places.
But after they had already announced the winners, they found a late entry and raced it against the top three cars and it beat all three, so Garrett came home with a second place ribbon and a smile on his face! I was really glad that he didn't focus on the sad news of losing first place, but rather that he kept looking at it as an improvement from 4th place last year. He also won "The Most Creative Paint Job" award.
This month for his other awards he earned another silver arrow head for Wolves, the Freedom Festival badge, the blue/white Fun for the Family pin, and his 100 Year Celebration badge. This was probably his last big collection of badges for a while since we are working on him getting his Bear. My sister had told me how much tougher the Bear badge was than Wolves, and she was (as she almost always is) right on the money about that!H
He continues to love doing it, so we keep plugging away at it.
